Melvin Robert serves as a Co-Anchor of the morning news program “The Beat on 1” Monday through Friday 5-9 AM, and Host of “The SoCal Scene,” Wednesday nights at 8 PM on the all-new SPECTRUM NEWS 1 exclusively on Spectrum, Southern California’s largest cable provider. 

He is committed to human uplift and empowering individuals to embrace their own power and stand in the goodness and freedom of their own truth. 

Over the course of his professional career, his role of educator and entertainer continues to nourish who he is today: a powerful teacher and a humble student of life.

 The Educator

For over a decade, he enjoyed serving a broad array of educational needs.  Robert’s career in education has led him to serve the needs of diverse populations from at-risk and severely emotionally challenged students to English Language Learners, minority college students and adults within the corporate sector.  

An alumnus of Loyola High School of Los Angeles and Loyola Marymount University, he earned his B.A. in English and an M.A. in Educational Studies focused in Counseling and Human Development.  

 The Entertainer

Melvin Robert (AEA /SAG-AFTRA)  is the proverbial triple threat - a talented versatile singer, actor and television host. Melvin starred in the Southern California Regional Premiere of RENT (Tom Collins) for Musical Theater West, MISS SAIGON (John) at San Diego's Moonlight Amphitheatre and has been featured as a soloist with the Gay Mens Chorus of Los Angeles in several concerts and on ABC's Good Morning America. Melvin has appeared in three productions for Emmy Award winning Director, Producer, Choreographer, Debbie Allen, including the World Premiere of her musical, THE BAYOU LEGEND, which featured music and lyrics by Academy Award nominee and Grammy winner James Ingram.  

Other regional theatre credits include:  WEST SIDE STORY, THE WIZARD OF OZ, ALEX IN WONDERLAND, THE HOT CHOCOLATE NUTCRACKER and the Southern California Premiere of I AM HARVEY MILK starring Tony Award nominee Andrew Lippa at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.  Film credits include: WHY HIM? (20th Century Fox) and SHIA LEBOUF LIVE (Short).  Additionally, he has written, directed and produced three one man shows: NICK OF TIME, THE SECOND ACT and HEART + SOUL.  As a television personality, Melvin has appeared on The Wendy Williams Show, Access Hollywood LIVE, KTLA-5 Morning News, Good Day LA, The Young Turks and Lip.TV. 

A lover of people, song, dance and the arts, Melvin believes that life is more fulfilling when we choose to be happy and let that which we are most passionate about be our compass.
